Markley and Balmer image
Markley & Balmer presented a special fundraising concert for St. Cecilia
on April 18th, 2015

ALL proceeds from ticket sales went to the music program at St. Cecilia School, (St. Cecilia being the patron saint of music), is located in north Oak Cliff, two miles down the road from the Bishop Arts District. The school was established in 1935, and serves students here in Oak Cliff. The school is abundant in heart, but not in dollars. Many of the students at SCS are Catholic Charities scholarship recipients, and also qualify for the federal lunch program. St. Cecilia School remains committed to affordable tuition in order to better serve their parish and community. This does not leave much money for music equipment.

Lisa Markley is the music teacher at St. Cecilia. She is striving to bring the music program there to the next level, (such as arranging jazz and Latin-jazz for percussion and marimbas), but cannot accomplish this without "all the notes." The Chromatic add-ons for all the "Orff" xylophones will be an estimated $2000. (Think of this as finally getting all the "black keys" for your piano.)

St. Cecilia's vintage collection of Orff xylophones was donated to the school over 30 years ago in memory of the passing of their music teacher, Mr. Matthew Smith. Lisa wishes to continue the work of Mr. Smith in his memory.

"Miz" Markley is hoping to raise enough money to purchase a classroom set of ukuleles--ideal for preparing smaller hands (2nd-3rd grades) for the guitar. This will cost approx. $1500+, (also, a classroom set of smaller guitars would be a secondary fundraising goal for the students when they are ready to transition to guitar).

Markley is hoping to expand their drum collection with 4 more "tubanos" (a free-standing student drum similar to the conga). This will make it easier to facilitate drum-circles with a full class.

Finally, (pie-in-the-sky), a proper set of choir risers runs about $3000+ (portable with safety rails on back and sides).
